Most people have a notion of Kenya as a safari holiday destination with its appealing wildlife and topography. What many travel enthusiasts do not know is that Kenya has ideal honeymoon getaways that are secluded and unexplored by many on safari. You have a chance to get away from the hustle and bustle of the modern world and crowds to bond with your lifetime partner.

An ideal honeymoon destination should offer a variety of activities and experiences that appeal to couples in love enjoying their companionship. Taking walks on secluded beaches, bush dinners, sunset walks, sports and outdoor recreation are amongst the numerous vacation activities a couple can have in Kenya.

For beach lovers, the Mombasa south coast beach has good hotels and beach resorts where a couple can spend time together. The night life is vibrant with many beach clubs. Hotels also offer African cultural dances, Masai warrior dances on the sea front seated by a roaring bonfire. If you want to get away from the world, take a one hour flight from Nairobi to Kiwayu Island, leave your cell phone behind and seclude yourself on the private isolated beach. If you love water sport, you can kite surf at Watamu beach, snorkel and dive at the Watamu Marine National Park in the clear waters of the Indian Ocean or just spend your day walking along the white sandy beach.

In the Kenyan part of the Great Rift Valley that runs from Syria to Mozambique, there are a number of lakes that offer honeymooners ideal getaways for a memorable honeymoon. The Crater Lake in Naivasha is a private and romantic place to spend your time. You can wine and dine at the hidden tented camp by the jade green waters of the lake, which is surrounded by a private wildlife sanctuary where you can take game drives and spot colobus monkeys, genet cats and if lucky a leopard. The nearby Crescent Island which you can visit on a boat ride at Lake Naivasha offers game walks amongst herbivorous wildlife including zebras, giraffes, antelopes and impala. Remember to stay away from the cape buffaloes that will be intent on ruining your honeymoon!

The Aberdare National Reserve has large waterfalls, and tree hotels and lodges with en-suite honeymoon suites where you can spend time together and watch wildlife come to drink at the water holes by the lodges without leaving the comfort of the lodge. The tranquil environment and quiet atmosphere will set the stage for a romantic honeymoon. You will not want to miss safari to the Masai Mara National Reserve while on your honeymoon vacation in Kenya. There are numerous tented camps and lodges that will offer honeymooners a base to go on game drives to spot lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants and rhino. You can have bush candle lit dinners with a private chef and Masai guards blending in the African night, keeping vigil under the star light.

If you love history, culture or exploring, you may visit the Nairobi National Museum and Snake Park, The Bomas of Kenya where you learn of the various cultures of the 42 tribes in Kenya and watch cultural dances. Take a trip to the Olorgesailie pre-historic site at Lake Magadi with the largest collection of hand tools by our ancestors and learn about the evolution of man or take a trip to the Koobi Fora Museum where fossils have been found. In Mombasa take a tour of Fort Jesus and old town Mombasa built by Portuguese and Swahili traders in a bygone era.

If you love night life, the Nairobi Carnivore Restaurant will offer great dinners where meat lovers can sample delicious wild game & Nile crocodile delicacies. As Nairobi is a cosmopolitan city you will also find Chinese, Thai, Italian, Indian and European restaurants and cuisine and good clubs and discos. Mombasa hosts lively beach parties at most sea front hotels so you can dance the night away on the beach as you enjoy your honeymoon.
